Museum Kata Andrea Hirata

Museum Kata Andrea Hirata

Hello everyone! Today I'm gonna tell you about one amazing museum that I have visited in Indonesia. The name of the museum is Museum Kata Andrea Hirata. It is located on Jalan Raya Laskar Pelangi number.7, Gantong, Belitung Timur.

It is the first and the only literature museum in Indonesia, that was built by Andrea Hirata himself. Andrea Hirata Seman Said Aaron is a famous Indonesian novel writer. He was born on October 24th, 1967 in Gantong, Belitung Timur, Bangka Belitung island. He was born in the poor village and had a difficult childhood. He was inspired by his pain on his childhood and wrote a novel called Laskar Pelangi. Laskar Pelangi is very famous, it is translated to 34 other language and published by more than 130 countries. He got very success and he decided to built this museum to fulfill his promise when he received the profit from his novel. He promised to build something permanent that has educational value in Belitung. The idea to built this museum comes when Andrea visited Mark Twain Boyhood's house and museum at Hannibal Missouri, US, where he went to collage at University of Iowa for study literature for 7 months.

The museum was built at 2010 and officially opened for public at 2012. The concept of the museum is taken from The Laskar Pelangi novel. When we walk in the museum, we will instantly feel the vibes from Laskar Pelangi. The first thing we will see if we come in is the museum yard which is filled with photos that tell us about the journey of the literature work that Belitung people proud of. Then inside the building, there are several rooms. Some of the rooms named after the characters from Laskar Pelangi, Ikal, Lintang, and Mahar. In each rooms there are lots of photos and things that relate with each characters. On Ikal room, there are so much unique art and history from all over the world. Beside that rooms, there is a room that very comfortable and filled with books and other things that tell us about Laskar Pelangi and it's achievement. Then there is a place to hangout and chilling called Warung Kopi Kuli, we can drink coffee and enjoy the traditional atmosphere. At the back of the museum, there is a room called Kata room, we can read various books peacefully in there.

We will get a Laskar Pelangi pocket book if we visit the museum. Eventhough we are required to pay if we want to go inside, for me it is very worth it because we will have an amazing experience. Also the museum is very nice and the structure is very aesthetic and good for taking pictures. The building and the things inside of it, is very interesting and very educational. I wish there will be many museum like this in Indonesia, so Indonesian people can learn about literature so much more.

Here are some photos of me at Museum Kata Andrea Hirata, enjoy!
